“Nature destroyed for fake nature won’t be without cost.”
Filipino correspondent Barnaby Lo shared a cause of concern following the extraction of dolomite rocks on the mountains of Alcoy, Cebu that is used to beautify the shores of Manila Bay.
The journalist was reminded of a coverage back in 2018 where he personally went to Cebu when a landslide occurred killing 78 people.
The said disaster was because of the quarrying operations in Naga City, Cebu, and was accompanied by the strong storm from Typhoon Ompong.
“In 2018, I covered a landslide in Cebu that killed 78. It was quite clearly due to mining,” said Lo.
“Yet another mountain was flattened in Cebu so Manileños can enjoy white sand.”
