Manila Bulletin columnist Tonyo Cruz thinks that it is unfair to compare the feast of Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Maynila to the Capital riots in the United States.

Both events are being criticized for mass gatherings despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cruz stated that devotees of the Black Nazarene still follow health protocol like wearing face masks, unlike the protesters supporting outgoing US President Donald Trump.

“May suot na face masks at face shields ang mga deboto,” said Cruz.

“Not credible to compare them with superspreader Trump rallies where most in not all attendees didn’t or refuse to wear masks,” he added.

As of 9 am, Manila Police District tallied around 400,000 people that gathered within the vicinity of Quiapo Church.
