Broadcast journalist Karen Davila feels for the thousand of employees who would soon be jobless because of the massive retrenchment by Philippine Airlines (PAL).
In her tweet, Davila said that it is ‘hearbreaking’ to know that families would have to endure income loss because of the pandemic.
“This is heartbreaking. I feel for our country. I feel for our workers. Job losses are very difficult for thousands of families,” said Davila.
“I pray that we can jumpstart tourism & reopen the economy safely,” she added.

About 2,300 jobs would be cut by PAL by mid-March, which is considered the biggest retrenchment by the airlines which is about 30 percent of their workforce.
“This has been an extremely difficult and painful decision. For our colleagues who are leaving, rest assured that we are committed to support you through this transition,” said on a statement by PAL president Gilbert Santa Maria.
